As a smallholder farmer in Uganda it's difficult to make a decent living from your produce. Most farmers lack technical expertise and do not have access to international markets, where they can secure a higher price for crops.
ACPCU is a co-operative made up of 21 smaller co-operative societies. Coffee farmers that are part of ACPCU have control over their produce from growing, to processing and export. This control is transformative for the lives of rural coffee farmers both socially and economically as it enables them to take ownership of the coffee value chain in the international market.
ACPCU provides stable working conditions for more than 12,000 smallholder farmers in Western Uganda. Their average annual earning are $503 per farmer from ACPCU purchases, as compared to an average of $350 per farmer from other coffee buyers.
